Avionics and Communication
The electronics on board and the link to the ground: an augmented-reality cockpit display, RF and satellite air-to-ground communication, air traffic control simulation, and a flight data recorder prototype.
About this project
Every flight produces data: position, height, speed, battery and attitude. This track builds the electronics that collect it, send it to the ground and show it so a pilot can read it at a glance.
The first build is a flight data recorder: a small board that logs the sensors to a memory card and survives a hard landing. It feeds a telemetry link and a ground display, and later an augmented-reality view that overlays flight information on the camera feed. Satellite links and air traffic control are approached through simulation.
What the team is working on
- Build a flight data recorder prototype that logs position, height, attitude and battery
- Set up an aircraft-to-ground telemetry link over RF, with satellite options studied
- Design a cockpit or ground-station display using augmented reality
- Build an air traffic control simulation for several aircraft
Tools and technologies
- ESP32 / STM32
- MAVLink telemetry
- LoRa / 433 MHz
- GPS modules
